Disk partitioning is not dangerous — not any more

It used to be that repartitioning a hard drive with data on it was a project that took a lot of technical understanding used up a lot of antacids. You had to know a lot about your disk and its file structure and even then you kept your fingers crossed while the hard disk partition software ran. But with modern disk partitioning software like Acronis Disk Director Suite and the features in modern operating systems, partitioning and re-partitioning a hard drive is pretty much something even a novice can do.

In theory — and, in the old days, far too often in practice — creating or moving new hard disk partitions could leave large chunks of your drive, or even the entire hard disk, inaccessible.
