Acronis True Image 9.0 Reviewer's Comments Acronis True Image 9.0 is our "TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award" winner
Rating: 4/4 This software makes an exact copy of the entire hard drive as well as backing up your individual files, this product also offers some unique reboot tools. Acronis True Image 9.0 has made some great improvements from the previous version. Using the product is very simple, because of the stepbystep wizards that walk you through the backup and restore process. They have also added more features that help you customize your backup and restore.
Feature setAcronis True Image 9.0 is an excellent tool for backing up your entire hard drive as well as individual files and programs. You may also perform full, incremental or differential backups to save either space or time. This product comes up short in some of the backup features. For example, in order for you to backup your emails you would have to either create an image of your hard drive or know exactly where to find your emails on your hard drive and then know how to import them into outlook. The only way to backup your registry is to make a complete disk backup. Acronis True Image 9.0 will, however, create a bootable rescue disk. It has a startup recovery manger that walks you through recovery process if your system has crashed. Another plus Acronis True Image 9.0 creates a Secure Zone® on your hard drive. This is a partition of extra data storage space set aside specifically for your backup (and for your bootable rescue data). This partition is hidden so no other software can access it, keeping it secure. Its primary purpose is to recover data after system crash. This is a unique Acronis' feature; we've never seen a secure zone in any other backup program. The ability to specify the compression level of the backup is a feature, which certainly will be appreciated by advanced computer users. You can select normal, high, or maximum compression. Normal compression requires the largest amount of storage space, maximum compression the smallest. Acronis True Image 9.0 also prompts you to enter a password for extra security.
Ease of useThe ease of use of Acronis True Image 9.0 has drastically improved. They have broken the process up into two main functions, backup and restore. If you choose to backup the program, it will ask you if you would like to backup the entire disk or just specific files. Once you select your option the wizard will hold your hand through the rest of the process to backup whatever you would like. One function that is a bit difficult to use involves the process of backing up emails and the registry. This product will not let you back them up individually; instead, you have to backup the entire hard drive to save this information.
Backup/Restore Acronis True Image 9.0 backed up and restored everything perfectly. We backed up one hard drive and stored the data on a separate hard drive. Restoring was simple and the restored copy worked as well as the original. Acronis True Image 9.0 preserved everything the registry and other system tools, all of our individual files and paths. (Copying the mechanics that make your files function as you are accustomed to is an asset lower ranked backup software lacks.)
Help/DocumentationAcronis True Image 9.0 help documentation is comprehensive. All the subjects are divided into individual categories. We found everything we were looking for. However, the document is a PDF file, so you must install and download Adobe Acrobat to view it. After that, you'll have a quick access to the help files through the help menu tool bar.
SummaryOverall, Acronis True Image 9.0 is very good data backup software. Earlier the main focus of this product was disk imaging, now the product has more individual file backup options so you can select exactly what you want to backup instead of backing up everything at once. If you are looking for a product that will perform both functions, then Acronis True Image 9.0 is the product you are looking for.
